Road traffic reduction bill completes committee stage
19 February 1997
The Road Traffic Reduction Bill made further progress towards becoming law today, when it completed its Committee Stage in the House of Commons.
All amendments, which had been tabled with cross-party support, were agreed and the Bill will now go on to its final stages in the House of Commons: the Report and Third Reading Stages, on Friday 28 February.
Ron Bailey, Parliamentary Campaigner of Friends of the Earth said:
"Thanks to the helpful and constructive approach of Roads Minister, John Watts MP, we now have a Bill with all-party and Government support which begins to address this countries traffic problems. I would like to thank Mr Watts and Don Foster MP, who introduced the Bill for their work in getting the Bill so far. We now have an excellent opportunity to get the Bill onto the Statute Book before the election.
