Foe welcomes lib dem's green pledges

Friends of the Earth has welcomed the Liberal Democrat's programme for the environment,'Our Green Future', which was announced today.
Charles Secrett, Director of Friends of the Earth, said:
"Friends of the Earth is pleased to see that the Liberal Democrats give such prominence to the environment in the run up to the General Election. They clearly understand that green issues matter for the electorate, and especially target voter groups such as women. We hope that the other parties follow suit.
In particular, we are encouraged by the detailed tax and public expenditure programmes to achieve environmental and economic gains. This policy document shows that the Liberal Democrats will put the environment at the heart of government where it belongs.
However, there are a number of gaps. For example, 'Our Green Guarantee' should have made much more of the significant employment opportunities from investing in energy conservation, organic farming, public transport, cleaner production technologies and recycling".
