Cynog dafis to promote national road traffic reduction targets as private members' bill

Cynog Dafis MP (Plaid Cymru) is to adopt the Road Traffic Reduction (National Targets)Bill after coming fifth in the Private Members' Ballot. The Bill would set binding national targets for reducing road traffic by 5 per cent by 2005 and 10 per cent by 2010 from 1990 levels. The Bill has been promoted by Friends of the Earth, the Green Party and Plaid Cymru.
Ron Bailey, Parliamentary Coordinator at Friends of the Earth, said:
"The Labour Party have promised 'an effective and integrated transport policy at national, regional and local level', this achieves it."
David Taylor, Principle Speaker for the Green Party, said:
"This Bill is the beginning of a sustainable transport policy and the Green Party will do everything within its power to see that it becomes law."
Cynog Dafis MP, Plaid Cymru, said:
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to adopt this Bill and present it to Parliament. The public want to see traffic tamed and its time for Parliament to take note."
