Friends of the Earth today called on people working in polluting industries to "whistle-blow"on their employers who illegally pollute the environment. FOE also called on Environment Agency staff to report when the Agency fails to control unlawful discharges to the environment. The call is made on new web pages launched today by Friends of the Earth.Mike Childs, Senior Industry and Pollution Campaigner at Friends of the Earth, said:
" The sad reality is that industry is getting away with illegally polluting the environment and the Environment Agency - the official watchdog - is failing to stop them. Whistle blowers can help us expose polluters and help the fight for a clean, healthy and safe environment."
FOE has provided whistle-blowers with guidance on how to leak information without being caught and has promised to keep information confidential if necessary.
Information on the new pages include:
. A whistle-blowers guide to environmental information.
. Details of new European safeguards on pollution from rubbish tips that the Government is trying to block.
. A case history of how the Environment Agency is trying to mislead the public over pollution from a cement works in Lancashire.
. Shocking facts and figures on how the World's resources are beig squandered.
. Disturbing evidence that chemicals are disrupting people's hormonal systems.
. Reports on how people are being kept in the dark about pollution and denied their right to other environmental information.
. A host of ideas on how you can take action to help fight for a better and healthier environment.
