Foe comment on new "supercar"

Commenting on the news of the development of a new supercar that manufacturers claim will cut exhaust pollution by 90%, Tony Bosworth, Transport Campaigner for Friends of the Earth, said:
“If the claims of the manufacturers are true, this could help reduce pollution in towns and cities. But we must not kid ourselves into thinking this car will solve all our transport problems: it will do nothing to cut congestion, nothing to protect the countryside from roadbuilding, nothing to stop rat-running in residential streets. Indeed, if it makes people think driving is now environmentally acceptable, it could make these problems worse. The only true solution to all our transport problems is to cut traffic levels”.
The Road Traffic Reduction [UK Targets] Bill - drafted by Friends of the Earth, the Green Party and Plaid Cymru - has been introduced to Parliament as a Private Members Bill by Plaid Cymru MP, Cynog Dafis. The Bill, which would lead to a 5 per cent reduction in traffic levels by 2005, and a 10 per cent cut by 2010 (based on 1990 levels), is due to be discussed in Parliament early in the new year.
