Greening rules out new runways at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted - Friends of the Earth reaction

28 June 2012

Commenting on Transport Secretary Justine Greening's insistence today that the Government will stick to the coalition agreement's restrictions on airport expansion - ruling out new runways at Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted, Friend of the Earth's Head of Campaigns Andrew Pendleton said:

"It's great news that Justine Greening has ruled out expansion at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted - but the Prime Minister still appears to be swallowing the aviation industry's misleading spin about the need for a big increase in air capacity in the south east.

"The Coalition must get its act together on aviation - more airports and runways will have an enormous impact on communities living in their shadow and critically damage UK efforts to tackle climate change."
