As Nick Clegg and Ed Davey launch the Government’s offshore wind industrial strategy Friends of the Earth’s Offshore Wind Campaigner Mike Birkin, said:

“While Ministers visit Grimsby to see the huge potential of the offshore wind industry, protestors and residents are trying to prevent the early stages of fracking for dirty fossil fuels at the other end of the country.

“We have the skills and infrastructure to lead the global race to make and supply clean energy kit which would create jobs where they are badly needed.

“Instead George Osborne’s ‘dash for gas’ has given dirty fracking the support that renewable energy so desperately needs and his stubborn resistance to a decarbonisation target risks stranding us in the slow lane.”
