Air pollution 'masking' climate change
23 August 2004
Air pollution may be masking the real threat global climate change poses a leading scientist has warned today [1].
Friends of the Earth's director Tony Juniper said:
"Suggestions that climate change may be a bigger threat than previously thought are deeply disturbing. Urgent world-wide action is desperately needed to tackle the crisis. We must reduce our dependence on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. Unless the world wakes up to the threat, millions of people across the planet may suffer the consequences"
Friends of the Earth has launched a climate challenge to encourage individuals to do more to tackle carbon dioxide emissions in their daily life. For more information and tips on saving energy see www.foe.co.uk/campaigns/climate/press_for_change/ ¬
