The Government today announced air quality figures for 2003.
Friends of the Earth's transport campaigner Tony Bosworth said:
"Britain suffers serious air quality problems every time we have a sunny summer. Climate scientists predict that last year's heat wave could be a taste of things to come, so the need for more action is clear. Cars are getting cleaner, but we are using them more every year. The Government must urgently review transport policies that allow road traffic levels to rise and encourage huge increases in air travel."
