Airline advertised for actors to avoid penalty charge

The Government is being urged to investigate the `crazy economics' of the aviation industry after it was revealed that budget airline, Flybe, advertised for actors to fly between Norwich and Dublin to boost passenger numbers and avoid a 280,000 commercial penalty.
Friends of the Earth's aviation campaigner, Tony Bosworth, said:
“This is madness. How can it possibly make financial sense to lay on extra flights and pay people to go on them? If the Government is serious about tackling climate change it must tackle the rapidly growing impact of aviation emissions. Ministers must abandon their airport expansion plans, include Britain's share of international aviation emissions in their proposals for a new climate change law, and investigate the crazy economics of an industry where it can pay to needlessly pollute.”
