Govt dithers over climate action on aviation and shipping
19 December 2012
Reacting to news that the Government has delayed a decision on whether to include emissions from international flights and shipping in the UK's targets to cut carbon, Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins said:
"Yet again the coalition has ducked a key decision on tackling climate change - if only Ministers put as much effort into taking action to cut emissions as they did in finding reasons to avoid it.
"Aviation and shipping are significant sources of pollution; they should be included in UK carbon budgets.
"Climate change is one of the biggest threats the planet faces - we need bold and decisive leadership, not more dither and delay."
