Boiler scrappage scheme is pathetically small
5 January 2010
Commenting on a boiler scrappage scheme launched by the Government today, Friends of the Earth's climate campaigner Dave Timms said:
"The boiler scrappage scheme is a welcome initiative but pathetically small - it will only reach 125,000 households when the UK has over 4 million inefficient G- rated boilers.
"Replacing old boilers with energy efficient models is one of the best ways to make home energy savings and slash fuel bills, but there is much more that can be done.
"Our homes are responsible for around a quarter of UK emissions. A comprehensive programme to slash energy waste and fit renewable energy systems is desperately needed to tackle climate change, end fuel poverty and create thousands of green jobs."
