Cameron calls for climate law consensus

David Cameron's speech at the Conservative party conference today has been welcomed by Friends of the Earth.
David Cameron said that "Government must show leadership by setting the right framework. Binding targets for carbon reduction, year on year… We have asked Tony Blair to put a Climate Change Bill in the Queen's Speech. If he does, we'll back it. So come on Prime Minister. It's your last few months in office ... use it to do something for the environment."
Friends of the Earth director, Tony Juniper, said:
"David Cameron has again made it clear that the Conservatives will back the Government if it introduces legislation to cut UK carbon dioxide levels in the Queen's Speech. The Liberal Democrats have said the same thing. There is now a tremendous opportunity for Tony Blair to take bold action to tackle climate change.Now it is time to act. We need a Climate Change Bill in this autumn's Queen's Speech - not another year of delay."
