Press release
Cameron backs nuclear power
16 March 2011
Responding to David Cameron's statement today that "I do think that nuclear power should be part of the mix in the future as it is part of the mix right now", Friends of the Earth's Head of Energy, Mike Childs said:
"The deeply disturbing events in Japan must lead to an urgent review of UK plans to build more nuclear reactors.
"The UK can meet its energy needs and tackle climate change by harnessing its vast renewable energy potential and slashing energy waste - new nuclear stations will inevitably starve these programmes of vital funds.
"We must invest in a cleaner, safer future - nuclear power is a gamble we don't need to take."
