Committee on Climate Change urges Huhne to develop renewable energy
10 September 2010
Commenting on the letter from the Chair of the Committee on Climate Change Lord Turner, to Chris Huhne, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, reiterating the Committee's support for 15 per cent of the UK's energy to come from renewable sources, and released tomorrow [10 September 2010], Friends of the Earth's Head of Climate Mike Childs said:
"The new Government must not dither in making the changes necessary to boost renewable power and energy efficiency.
"Every month's delay means more carbon pollution - and gives a head start to China and others to lead the development of the low carbon industries of the future with the jobs and economic benefits that this brings.
"Chris Huhne must immediately confirm that the renewable heat incentive is going ahead, remove barriers to rapid growth in offshore wind and use the forthcoming energy bill to introduce an ambitious programme of home energy efficiency."
