IPCC reform must not distract from urgent action on climate change
Commenting on a review of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s workings released yesterday [Monday 30 August], Friends of the Earth's Head of Climate Mike Childs said:
"We welcome this report on strengthening the IPCC process - research of all kinds needs to be thorough, independent and subject to honest review.
"But we mustn't be distracted from the urgent task of reducing global greenhouse gases - there is an overwhelming scientific consensus that man-made climate change is happening and that it poses significant risks to the economy, the environment and to people.
"Tackling climate change by weaning ourselves off fossil fuels will also increase energy security and create new green industries with hundreds of thousands of jobs."
