Climate change is changing the seasons - New research

25 August 2006

Commenting on new scientific research showing that climate change is affecting the seasons and that spring is arriving earlier [1], Friends of the Earth's climate campaigner, Mike Childs said:

"This is yet further disturbing evidence that our climate is rapidly changing, and the threat it poses to plants and animals. Action to tackle it is urgently required. Tony Blair has promised to show international leadership, but has so far failed to cut UK emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas. The Government must show it is serious on this issue by announcing new legislation in the Queen's Speech requiring annual cuts in carbon dioxide emissions. A new climate change law, which Friends of the Earth is calling for as part of The Big Ask campaign, already has the support of most MPs and three quarters of the public."
