Climate Clinic at the Lib Dem Party Conference
15 September 2006
The first ever Climate Clinic is in Brighton this week for the start of this year's main party political conferences to put climate on the agenda and push for real political action to tackle climate change.
Chris Rapley from the British Antarctic Survey will be just one of the key speakers (Climate Change and polar ice, 9.30am, Tuesday 19 September) at this unique event, which will bring together scientists, politicians, and business leaders.
The Climate Clinic will launch with a showing on Sunday of Al Gore's `An Inconvenient Truth' at 9.30pm at the Odeon, West Street, Brighton, introduced by Lib Dem Environment Spokesman Chris Huhne MP.
Other events include:
-
Dr Peter Stott, Met Office - Update on the Science of Climate Change (10am, Monday 18 September)
-
Vince Cable MP will speak on the Changing Climate of the Aviation Debate (5.30pm, Monday 18 September)
-
Craig Sams, founder of Green and Blacks, will talk about Eating without Oil (7.30pm, Tuesday 19 September).
Visitors to the Climate Clinic will also be able to check their climate footprint at the Climate Gym.
The Climate Clinic is calling on politicians of all parties to support urgent government action, both domestically and on the international stage, to prevent global temperatures rising more than two degrees above pre-industrial levels, beyond which our world faces disaster. The solutions to this crisis exist, what is now needed is political will. That's why we're here.
Organised by the UK's leading green organisations and supported by business and the Energy Saving Trust, the Climate Clinic will be held at each of the main party political conferences this year.
