Responding to a Government review into maximising the economic benefits of the oil and gas industry launched today (Monday 10 June), Friends of the Earth’s Senior Climate and Energy Campaigner Simon Bullock said:

“Yet again the Government’s fossil-fuel addiction is keeping the nation hooked on dirty and increasingly costly oil and gas while jeopardising crucial climate targets.

“With the International Energy Agency warning that global temperatures could rise by up to 5.3°C, Ministers must not ignore the dire economic and environmental consequences of failing to tackle climate change.

“It’s time to forget about North Sea oil and gas exploration and maximise investment in energy efficiency and clean power from our wind, waves and sun.”
