Government announces Emergency Budget
17 May 2010
Commenting on today's announcement of a date for the Emergency Budget, Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins said:
"The Emergency Budget is a crucial opportunity to deliver on David Cameron's pledge to preside over the greenest Government ever - the Chancellor must seize it.
"The creation of our future prosperity must be built on the firm foundations of a low-carbon economy.
"Developing the UK's vast renewable energy potential and stamping out energy waste will create new green jobs and industries, increase energy security and help end the scourge of fuel poverty."
Notes to editors:
1. Friends of the Earth is calling on the Chancellor to protect spending on energy efficiency - which saves households and businesses money; drop wasteful spending on road building - which wrecks our climate and countryside; raise taxes on pollution and increase tax incentives for green technologies.
