UK energy statistics released
29 July 2010
The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) today (Thursday 29 July 2010) released UK energy consumption statistics for 2009. Friends of the Earth's Head of Climate Change Mike Childs said:
"This small reduction in energy use is positive but unfortunately it's not the result of a wider Government drive to cut energy waste and move the UK to a clean, green energy supply.
"Slashing energy waste and investing in a green economy would create new green jobs and help Britain recover from recession - as well as play our part in averting climate disaster.
"We need to invest in creating home-grown, green electricity if we are to meet our targets for generating renewable energy - a win-win that would create a more secure supply and protect us from yo-yoing fuel bills too."
