Government launches England wildlife strategy
19 August 2011
Commenting on new targets to protect English wildlife launched by the Government today (Friday 19 August 2011), Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins said:
"New targets to protect wildlife are a start but we need bold action to meet them - and so far the plans have been vague.
"We need policies across Whitehall that protect nature at home and abroad, from the birdlife in our gardens to wildlife-rich rainforests.
"The CAP must be reformed to support British farmers to produce food and feed locally, and protect the environment at the same time.
"And the Government must put the environment at the centre of planning policy and ensure the views of local communities are heard."
