Commenting on EU Trade Commissioner's new trade plans announced today, Friends of the Earth Trade Campaigner Joe Zacune said:
"Peter Mandelson's proposals will propel some of the most powerful corporations in the world into direct competition with subsistence farmers and infant industries in the South. The strategy ignores the demands of developing countries by reintroducing issues that they have already rejected, such as investment, which would open and deregulate sensitive sectors including mining, oil, forestry and fisheries. If the European Union cares about the livelihoods of millions of world's poorest people and the environment, it must reject the Trade Commissioner's vision."
Peter Mandelson presented his vision for the future of EU trade policy to the European Commission this morning.
