Food price rises highlight urgent need to tackle climate change
Commenting on reports today that food prices have increased because of drought in Russia, Friends of the Earth’s Head of Climate Mike Childs said:
“The cost of food is on the up and with extreme weather events set to increase in future we’ll face the same crisis time and again – unless the Government takes urgent action to tackle climate change.
“We now have a choice: investing in green energy and industries that will boost Britain’s economy and create new jobs – or failing to act, which spells catastrophe for the planet and for our purses.”

In October 2009 research by Friends of the Earth showed we could be paying £6.50 for a loaf of bread, £7 for a box of cornflakes and £18 for a pint of beer in 2030 unless urgent action is taken to prevent dangerous climate change.
