Food price rises highlight urgent need to tackle climate change
4 August 2010
Commenting on reports today that food prices have increased because of drought in Russia, Friends of the Earth's Head of Climate Mike Childs said:
"The cost of food is on the up and with extreme weather events set to increase in future we'll face the same crisis time and again - unless the Government takes urgent action to tackle climate change.
"We now have a choice: investing in green energy and industries that will boost Britain's economy and create new jobs - or failing to act, which spells catastrophe for the planet and for our purses."

In October 2009 research by Friends of the Earth showed we could be paying £6.50 for a loaf of bread, £7 for a box of cornflakes and £18 for a pint of beer in 2030 unless urgent action is taken to prevent dangerous climate change.
