Friends of the Earth charity screening at Prince Charles Cinema

Friends of the Earth will be taking charge of the projection box at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square on Saturday 7 January 2006 1:00pm, with a charity screening of Fly Away Home, a green movie with family appeal.

Known for doing things differently, Prince Charles Cinema (home of Singalonga Sound of Music nights and movie tickets as cheap as chips) is sponsoring Friends of the Earth by giving the environmental organisation a charity screening, one Saturday every 2 months.

"We want to work with charities committed to making the world a better place", says cinema manager and Friends of the Earth supporter Robin Priestley. "And with Friends of the Earth we feel we've found that".

Throughout this partnership in 2006, you can expect a line up of sneak previews and classic green movies, plus there will be plenty of opportunity to learn about Friends of the Earth and how you can get involved.

Synopsis of Fly Away Home

Inspired by a true story, Fly Away Home is a heartwarming movie for all the family. It tells the story of a young teenager, Amy (Anna Paquin, winner of Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Piano), who goes to live with her father (Jeff Daniels) in Canada after her mother dies in a car accident. Miserable in her new life and grieving for her mother, Amy finds it difficult to connect with her father, an `off the wall' inventor and sculptor. It's not until she discovers a nest of goose eggs that were abandoned when developers began tearing up a local forest, that Amy finds an outlet for her grief. Amy becomes `Mother Goose', helping them hatch and raising the goslings. And worried that if the young geese stay in Canada a cold winter could kill them, Amy and her Dad join forces to work out a plan to teach the birds to fly. Will they succeed in time and lead the geese south?
