7 July 2006
After years of preparation Friends of the Earth Class 40 yacht left Cape Town today (7 July) on its maiden voyage. The departure marks the start of a journey to highlight the need for national and international action on climate change.
Skipper Jonathan Crinion and team mate Brain McCallumwill travel to St Helena where Jonathan will begin a solo voyage to Falmouth, UK. The yacht will be taking part in the one of the world's most challenging solo races - the transatlantic La Route du Rhum - in October. The 2006 Route du Rhum will be the first international race for the Class 40.
