Friends of the Earth Launches New Climate Resource for Schools

Friends of the Earth, today, launched `Shout About Climate Solutions 2006' a resource pack and activity week for teachers, youth workers and young people who are keen to know more about climate change and what can be done to address it.

The resource, designed for use with young people between the ages of 11 and 13, contains easy to use information on climate change and how we can tackle it through a focus on electricity, transport and heating. It is also packed with activities designed to bring the issue to life in the classroom including a green PR campaign to sell the idea of energy efficiency to other young people, designing an energy efficient house or exploring different sources of renewable energy.

The Shout About Climate Solutions resource is linked to the National Curriculum in the areas of science, CDT, maths, geography and citizenship. It will also help schools and teachers who are being asked by Government to measure and cut their energy use and involve young people in creating policies and actions that will help reduce emissions.

Friends of the Earth's education coordinator, Vicki Felgate, said: "The Shout About Climate Solutions resource offers teachers and youth workers easy to use information on climate change as well as ideas and resources which will help them encourage young people to think about the solutions and their role in tackling it - in their homes and their schools."

Teachers are also encouraged to register for the `Shout About Climate Solutions' Activity Week which takes place from 6 - 10 November 2006. Last year over 1,800 schools and youth groups across the country took part in a nation wide week of activity to raise awareness and encourage action on climate change.

Teachers and youth workers can find out more and register for the `Shout About Climate Solutions' Week of Action and a FREE resource pack at www.foe.co.uk/learning/educators.
