Press Release

Government Failing Green Project

Jul 27 2004

Commenting on the Environmental Audit Committee's report today that concludes Labour has abandoned its project to green the heart of government, Friends of the Earth's Parliamentary Coordinator Martyn Williams said:

"Labour promised to put the environment at the heart of all policy - yet are failing to green the heart of their own departments in Whitehall. Tony Blair has said that climate change is the greatest threat facing this planet, but he cannot even get his own departments to accurately monitor their energy use. The Government should be using its role as a major employer to lead by example and show companies how going green can make them more efficient and save money. Tony Blair's fine words are worthless if he cannot get the Government to put them into practice."
