Government scraps forest sell-off

Commenting on the Government's decision to scrap plans to sell-off publicly-owned UK forests, Friends of the Earth campaigner Martyn Williams said:

"We're delighted that the Government has abandoned its hugely unpopular forest sell-off plans.

“As well as abandoning their consultation, Ministers must also scrap new powers, currently going through Parliament, which allow our forests to be sold.

"UK forestry policy must prioritise public access and boosting wildlife - not flogging off the family silver.

"Now that the Government has seen the wood for the trees, it's time to stop UK policies eating into forests and wildlife overseas too."
