Government waste targets failure attacked

23 April 2003

Responding to the Environmental Audit Committee's report on waste, "Waste - An Audit" (published today [1]), Friends of the Earth Senior Waste Campaigner Claire Wilton said:

"Yet again the Government has been hammered over its inability to tackle waste. The Environmental Audit Committee is spot on when it says that the current waste strategy is a "charter for incineration". The Government desperately needs to set a target to recycle half of our waste, and to promise every household a decent doorstep recycling service, while providing proper funding for local authorities. Until it does this it will continue to be deluged with justified criticism"
