Govt Green Food report dishes out lots of rhetoric, but little action

Commenting on the Government’s Green Food Project report, published today (Tuesday 10 July 2012), Friends of the Earth’s Food and Farming Campaigner Clare Oxborrow said:

“This report dishes up lots of rhetoric, but falls woefully short of the commitments needed to secure our future food requirements and protect the environment.

“Too much emphasis is put on boosting food production when this alone won’t fix the problem – there’s already enough food to feed the world, yet a billion people are going hungry every year.

“A radical change is needed to slash food waste, and ensure we use and distribute our food resources more efficiently and fairly – crucially this must include firm action to promote better diets with less, but better quality, meat and dairy products.

“It’s time for the Government to step up to the plate and serve up real leadership on food.”
