Press Release

Greener aircraft needed - but government action essential

May 16 2008

Commenting on an exhibition of "green" aircraft that have gone on display today at the Science Museum in London, Friends of the Earth's aviation campaigner, Richard Dyer said:

"Aviation is one of the fastest growing sources of carbon dioxide. Moves to make aircraft more fuel-efficient are welcome - but any improvements in aircraft efficiency are likely to be swamped by the growth in air travel. Government action is also urgently needed. Ministers must include Britain's share of carbon emissions from international flights in the Climate Change Bill, and scrap plans to expand UK airports."
