Inquiry into Big Six stranglehold is long overdue

Commenting on news today (Thursday 27 March 2014) that Britain's Big Six energy suppliers are to face a full-scale competition investigation, Friends of the Earth energy campaigner Paul Steedman said:

"An inquiry into the stranglehold the Big Six have on the energy market is long overdue – we’ve been calling for one through our Final Demand campaign for two and a half years.

"But for consumers to get real long-term benefit, this investigation must also examine the role the energy giants play in keeping our economy hooked on costly fossil fuels that pollute our atmosphere, instead of cutting energy waste and investing in clean power."
