Press Release

JUDGES REJECT PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK QUARRY

Jun 17 2005

Friends of the Earth has welcomed today's judgement by the Court of Appeal rejecting plans to reopen quarries in the Peak District National Park. The environmental pressure group was one of many organisations that opposed the plans.

Friends of the Earth's East Midlands campaigner Callie Lister, said:

"Today's judgement is a victory for commonsense and the environment. Quarrying would cause irreparable damage to the Peak District National Park, one of the most precious parts of the country. We hope this verdict will be reflected in any future decisions on applications that would destroy such sensitive sites."
