Plans to make landlords green their homes too weak
2 November 2010
Commenting on Government plans that could force private landlords to insulate energy-leaking properties, Friends of the Earth's Green Homes campaigner Dave Timms said:
"It's good the Government recognises specific legislation is needed to stop privately rented homes leaking heat - but unfortunately these proposals are half-hearted and confusing.
"Landlords need to know what will be expected of them well in advance.
"Vulnerable tenants must be protected with a clear legal minimum energy efficiency standard for private rented homes, so that those properties so cold they are a health hazard have to be improved.
"Making our homes energy efficient is also one of the cheapest and quickest ways to slash carbon emissions and help tackle climate change."
