MPs right to tell Government Britannia could rule the waves

19 February 2012

Commenting on a new report released today by the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee, which shows the UK's massive potential for marine energy, Friends of the Earth's Energy Campaigner Paul Steedman said:

"The Select Committee is spot on to show the UK's huge potential for producing energy from waves and tides - most people don't know we're already world leaders in this technology.

"The right support for this pioneering industry would create tens of thousands of new jobs and provide a home-grown source of clean energy.

"The Government must make it easier for marine power developers to transform our broken energy system and shift us off our dangerous reliance on coal and gas."

  1. Friends of the Earth's Final Demand campaign, launched in October last year, calls for energy we can all afford and a public inquiry into the power and influence of the Big Six energy companies.
