Miliband challenges Cameron on climate change targets
12 May 2011
Welcoming Labour leader Ed Miliband's letter to David Cameron today (Thursday 12 May 2011) urging him to accept the Committee on Climate Change's call for tougher climate action, Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins said:
"Ed Miliband showed real climate leadership in office, and we're delighted he's now putting the Labour party's weight behind the climate committee's call for tougher UK global warming targets.
"Labour accepted the committee's independent and science-based advice when it was in power - unless David Cameron is abandoning his pledge to lead the greenest Government ever, he must do the same."
Friends of the Earth has copies of Ed Miliband's letter to the Prime Minister.
Notes to editors:
1. This Saturday is the first anniversary of David Cameron's pledge to lead the greenest Government ever. A Friends of the Earth report - written by former Sustainable Development Commission chair, Jonathon Porritt and published last weekend - concluded there had been little or no progress in over three quarters of the Coalition's green policies.
