Miliband attacks Coalition over climate action

22 November 2012

Welcoming Labour leader Ed Miliband's enthusiastic backing for a target to decarbonise the power sector and his support for a green economy, Friends of the Earth's Executive Director Andy Atkins said:

"With Coalition promises to champion the environment rapidly evaporating it's more important than ever for Labour to show real political leadership on the mounting climate change threat.

"Ed Miliband played a key role in passing the UK's ground-breaking Climate Change Act - with his strong-backing for a decarbonised power sector he's showing the long-term vision that Cameron's Government lacks.

"We must pull the plug on our fossil-fuelled economy to cut emissions, create new jobs and end our reliance on increasingly costly gas and oil.

"We are facing a major crisis - all parties must show the courage and resolve to meet the climate change challenge."
