Spoof movie trailer launches competition for blockbuster stunt idea
23 August 2010
A new spoof film trailer released today (Monday 23 August 2010) is challenging members of the public to take centre stage in Friends of the Earth's campaign for rainforest-free food.
The tongue-in-cheek movie ad documents the plight of a lone cow trying to change the world by championing the MOOvement - the green charity's campaign for planet-friendly farming. It is available to view on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiVUybFn0vw.
Friends of the Earth is calling on people to put forward their own ideas for a stunt to raise awareness of the campaign and put pressure on politicians ahead of a critical vote in Parliament.
At the moment, factory farmed animals are fed imported feed grown by destroying rainforests and wildlife in South America. Friends of the Earth wants people to join the MOOvement and persuade MPs to vote in favour of the Sustainable Livestock Bill, which would see farmers supported to rear animals that are born, bred and fed British instead.
The winning stunt idea will be carried out when MPs return from their summer break in September - and its creator will have the opportunity to star in a film of the stunt that will be put on YouTube. Details of the competition can be found at www.jointheMOOvement.com .
Friends of the Earth's food campaigner Nick Beuret, who stars in the trailer, said:
"People who join the MOOvement are part of a plot that's changing politics - and now we're giving them a chance to step in and write the script.
"This autumn MPs will be voting on a new law to help stop factory farming trashing the planet and we want our supporters' voices to be heard loud and clear.
"From flash mobs to street performances, we want to hear ideas for blockbuster stunts that'll have MPs edge of their seats."
