New leader must put environment at heart of policies

Commenting on the election of Sir Menzies Campbell as the new leader of the Liberal Democrats today, Friends of the Earth Executive Director Tony Juniper said:
"The election of Sir Menzies Campbell is a real opportunity for the Lib Dems to reassert themselves as the greenest of the three main political parties. Their past record has been impressive, with the strongest manifesto commitments. We hope that Sir Menzies will take a strong lead in promoting the essential policies needed to tackle climate change, at both a national and a local level."
