Obama can fill Nobel shoes if he leads on climate
9 December 2009
As President Obama heads to Norway to collect his Nobel Peace Prize, Friends of the Earth Executive Director Andy Atkins said:
"Climate change is one of the biggest threats to the world's safety and stability.
"By leading global action on climate change, Barack Obama can fill the shoes of the great figures who've been awarded the Nobel Peace prize before.
"Obama should put his weight behind getting a strong and fair international climate agreement in Copenhagen and put an end to the US blocking progress in the climate talks.
"Rich countries must cut their emissions first and fast and must stump up new public money for developing countries so they can grow cleanly and adapt to the damage already caused by climate change."
