Government study confirms offshore wind potential
26 January 2009
Commenting on today's Government study which confirms that there is scope for between 5,000 and 7,000 more offshore wind turbines, Friends of the Earth's renewable energy campaigner Nick Rau said:
"We're delighted that the Government has confirmed the massive potential for off-shore wind energy - it must now make sure that it becomes a reality."
"Ministers must urgently develop an offshore electricity grid and ensure that companies have real long-term financial incentives to develop these wind farms as quickly as possible."
"Investing in green power will also provide exciting new opportunities for UK industry which has an important role to play in delivering the necessary infrastructure."
"The UK has the best wind resource in Europe - harnessing this vast source of energy would slash emissions, create thousands of jobs and put this country at the forefront of developing a green economy."
