OPEC Increase Oil Production

3 June 2004

Commenting on the decision of OPEC ministers to raise oil production, Friends of the Earth's Transport Campaigner Tony Bosworth said:

"The increase in oil production is a short-term sticking plaster. It is not a real long-term solution and may not even help reduce fuel prices. Indeed our economy is still under threat from oil industry volatility, and our climate is being seriously damaged by burning oil. The Government must do more to reduce our dependency on oil by ensuring that cars are more fuel efficient, alternative fuels are widely available and investment is increased in real alternatives to the car. Ending our unhealthy addiction to oil is essential for the economy and the environment."
