Stark warning over climate change
30 January 2006
Commenting on a new scientific report today warning that concentrations of greenhouse gases may have more serious impacts than previously believed, Friends of the Earth's climate campaigner, Roger Higman said:
"The international community must wake up to the catastrophic consequences of climate change. Urgent action is needed to cut carbon dioxide levels while we still have time. This means reducing energy waste, investing in sustainable, safe renewables and cleaning up our use of fossil fuels.
"Despite Tony Blair's concerns about climate change, UK emissions have risen under Labour. He should now support mounting calls for a new law requiring the Government to make annual cuts in carbon dioxide emissions, and make Britain a world leader in the development of a low-carbon, nuclear-free economy".
