Survey shows public concern over climate impacts of climate
28 January 2010
Commenting on a report published by the Department of Transport today which shows the latest on people's attitudes to climate change in relation to transport and how they have changed over time, Friends of the Earth's transport campaigner Richard Dyer said:
"This report shows the public are concerned about transport's contribution to climate change - and rightly so, as it accounts for a quarter of UK carbon emissions.
"Almost 60 per cent of people back reduced car use and there's strong support for alternative travel options like improved public transport.
"The government must listen to these findings and take bold action to make transport greener.
"We can't rely on waiting for cleaner cars - we need urgent measures to promote cleaner options such as walking, cycling and public transport, not expensive new road building schemes that increase traffic and emissions."
