Press Release

UK greenhouse gases rise again

May 23 2006

New figures released today (23 May) which show that greenhouse gas emissions rose again last year highlight the need for a new law to tackle climate change said Friends of the Earth. The Office for National Statistics figures show that greenhouse emissions were one per cent higher in 2004 than 2003.

Friends of the Earth climate campaigner Germana Canzi said:

"These latest figures provide yet more evidence that decisive action is needed to tackle rising greenhouse gas emissions. That is why Friends of the Earths climate campaign, The Big Ask,is calling on the Government to introduce legislation that will commit it to making annual cuts in the UK's emissions. A new climate law already has the backing of most MPs and 75 per cent of the public. It's time the Government got serious about tackling climate change."
