'Vote Blue Go Green' urges Cameron

18 April 2006

Commenting on David Cameron's call today to Vote Blue Go Green, Tony Juniper, director of Friends of the Earth said:

"It's encouraging to see environmental issues at the top of the political agenda. Climate change is the biggest threat the planet faces, and international, national and local policies to tackle it are urgently required. But despite all the concern, UK carbon dioxide emissions are still rising. This is why every party should support The Big Ask campaign which is calling for a new law requiring the UK Government to make annual cuts in emissions, and why they must work together in agreeing a strategy that delivers it."

Friends of the Earth's climate campaign, The Big Ask, is calling for a new law requiring the Government to make annual cuts in carbon dioxide levels. The measure has wide-spread support, including the majority of MPs. For more information see: www.thebigask.com
