Government gives green light to wind farms off Norfolk coast
6 July 2012
Responding to news today (Friday 6 July 2012) that the Government has given consent to two new wind farms off the Norfolk coast, but refused a third application due to its potential impact on seabirds, Friends of the Earth's Energy Campaigner Mike Birkin said:
"This is great news - pushing ahead with renewable energy like offshore wind will boost local jobs and help end our reliance on ever-more costly fossil fuels, which are sending our fuel bills soaring.
"The sooner we invest in clean British energy the sooner costs will fall - Ed Davey must stand firm against Treasury threats to bring in 'cut and kill' policies that will scare investors away.
"Organisations like the RSPB say wind turbines don't cause long-term damage to bird populations, but they should always be located carefully to minimise impacts on local wildlife."
