Darling to consider windfall tax on huge oil company profits

1 August 2008

Responding to reports that Alistair Darling is considering imposing a windfall tax on energy companies, Friends of the Earth's Campaigns Director Mike Childs said:

"The Treasury should consider imposing a windfall tax on oil companies, with the money used to fund a comprehensive home energy efficiency programme. This will slash domestic fuel bills, cut climate-changing carbon dioxide emissions and reduce Britain's dependency on increasingly expensive and unreliable fossil fuels."
